Star Awards – January

Congratulations to our Star Award winners for January! One pupil from each classroom was selected by their class teacher and the award winners were presented with certificates at today’s assembly. They were also given a night off homework for their efforts!

An extra award, decided on by Ms O’Dwyer and Mrs. Brosnan, is presented to pupils for a particular act of kindness or to pupils who have completed an exemplary piece of work in school. Well done to the latest recipient of this award.

Pupils Have Their Say On New Taoiseach

Fourth Class pupils got the experience of polling day on Tuesday as the countdown to Election 2020 nears an end.

Pupils were asked to select who they would like to be the new Taoiseach with a number 1 vote and were also asked to continue their preferences along the ballot paper. This was to help explain the Proportional Representation system and a candidate being required to reach a quota.

As it worked out, it wasn’t until the SIXTH count that it was determined that Micheál Martin was their selection, beating current Taoiseach Leo Varadkar into second place.

We will see what the real election has in store next weekend!

Credit Union Quiz

Success for Herbertstown NS at the Credit Union Quiz.

Herbertstown NS entered 4 teams in the Credit Union Quiz last night, two in the U13 category and two in the U11 category.

Each performed very well with our U13 teams placing second and sixth. Our U11 teams occupied the first and third positions at the end of the evening so the winning U11 team now go forward to the next stage which takes place later this month.

Congratulations to all our boys and girls on their great performances.
