3-in-a-Row for Herbertstown Girls

Congratulations to our girls’ football team who completed 3 South Premier titles in a row today in Martinstown.

The girls faced tough opposition in a determined Scoil Dean Cussen side. Two first half goals from Ellie Dooley and Emily Higgins helped Herbertstown to a 2.00 to 0.01 lead at the break.

The second half was very tense with scores at a premium. Bruff scored an early goal before Emily tapped over a point at the other end to set up a tense finish. A massive effort from the Herbertstown defence ensured that Bruff only added a further point and our girls held on for a 2.01 to 1.02 win.

The girls will now go on to represent the South in the County semi-final in November.

Roinn C Boys Final

Our boys were in hard luck in the Roinn C final earlier today. Manister were the opposition and an early goal by Conor Mulcahy gave Herbertstown the lead before Manister levelled to make it 1 goal a piece at half time.

A quick goal and point by Manister gave them the advantage early in the second half before Herbertstown rallied through a goal by Cormac Dundon. However, Manister finished the stronger by adding some insurance points which helped them hang on for the win.

Girls Win South INTO Mini 7s Title

Congratulations to our girls’ footballers who won the South Limerick INTO Mini 7s competition earlier today in Martinstown.

The girls played some terrific football on their way to winning all their matches in a very tough group which featured Hospital NS, Knockainey NS, Ballylanders NS and last year’s County Mini 7s champions Kilbehenny NS.

Our boys’ team were also in action and they put in some great performances. In their first game they drew with Kilbehenny NS. A narrow defeat to eventual winners Ballylanders NS followed before they finished out their day with a win over Knockainey NS. Well done boys.

Finally, on a busy day of Cumann na mBunscol action for the school, our 3rd & 4th class girls played in a blitz in Hospital. This was a great experience for them with plenty more days out with the school’s teams ahead for them.

Cumann na mBunscol Week Quiz

Congratulations to the winning team of the GAA themed quiz we held on Friday to mark the end of Cumann na mBunscol Week.

The team scored an impressive 46 out of a possible 54 points!

They received a wonderful prize of an Allianz ‘Stop the Drop’ jersey each.

Anthony Baggott Cup

Knockainey NS were winners of the 2024 Anthony Baggott.

This was Knockainey’s third time winning the tournament which took place during national Cumann na mBunscol Week. The traditional group of schools took part; Caherline NS, Knockainey NS, Hospital NS and of course our own side from Herbertstown NS.

Herbertstown NS reached the final after winning all three of their group games. However, Knockainey produced a very good second half display to win the final.

Next year will be the 10th edition of the tournament and we are already looking forward to that.
