Third/Fourth Cast Their Votes

The boys & girls in 3rd/4th class vote for Irish President*

3rd & 4th class learned about the Irish Presidential Election this week and had an opportunity to experience what voters will be taking part in on Friday. The pupils learned about how the President will be elected, how the votes are cast & counted and how the winner will be decided.

There was a clear winner following the counting of our votes. We will have to wait and see what the actual election result will be!

A presentation of a cheque for €2000 was made to Brendan Ring of Clíona’s Foundation and another €2000 was presented to Sinéad Nolan of CMRF Crumlin.

Thank you once again to everyone who donated so generously and those who supported Pedal to the Peak in any way.

South Finals

Well done to our boys and girls who completed in South Cumann na mBunscol finals this week.

Our teams met two very strong Ballylanders NS sides in Martinstown and unfortunately did not bring home a trophy on this occasion. Our teams deserve huge credit though for the way they played and their supporters and mentors were very proud of them.

In terms of Gaelic Games, attention now turns to hurling where 2019 will see teams participate in indoor hurling, INTO Mini 7s, camogie and 11 a side competitions. Before that, the school’s handballers will be in action in November in the South Primary Schools Handball Blitz.

Our girls will also represent the South division in the county finals of the INTO mini 7s sometime in the spring.

Third/Fourth Class Make Skype Call to Vietnam

Ms Griffin and Third & Fourth class had a very interesting conversation with a teacher in Vietnam during October via Skype.

The children prepared questions for the Irish teacher based in Vietnam ahead of the call. Some of the queries they had were:

  • How is the weather?
  • What animals do you have there that we don’t?
  • What language do they use?
  • How do women dress?
  • How long is the flight there?
  • How do people travel?
  • Have you met many people?

The pupils were given lots of information about Vietnam and some other neighbouring countries and really enjoyed learning about Asia.
