Over 40 pupils from the school took part in the Limerick Primary Schools Athletics in UL on Thursday.
With strong performances in all events our boys and girls did fantastically well in this team based competition. The boys team placed second in their category while the girls finished third. Both teams were only a handful of points away from higher placings. Huge credit is due to both teams who gave every race or long jump 100% in a outing where a lot of waiting is involved before participation. Well done to all!
The 3rd/4th class school tour to UL Adventure Centre in Killaloe was great fun for all and the group enjoyed activities on both the land and the water in lovely May sunshine!
Congratulations to Lauren & Aoibhinn who won the Neville Cup with South Limerick yesterday!
South Limerick – Neville Cup Winners 2019
South Limerick defeated Limerick City on a scoreline of 1.05 to 0.03. Well done to our girls who join past pupil Aisling Farrell as the sole holders of Neville Cup medals from Herbertstown NS.
Earlier in the week, Liam & Seán were in action for the boys in the Mackey Cup. The South were looking for a fourth title in a row but this was a bridge too far as they bowed out in the semi-final.
South Limerick Panel – Mackey Cup 2019
We are very proud of our pupils who represented our school with such distinction.
Best wishes to Tadhg who will be playing the Primary Game during the Munster Football Championship meeting of Limerick & Tipperary in Thurles this weekend.
Well done to everyone from the school community who took part in events over the May Bank Holiday weekend.
We had almost 50 pupils involved in the Kids Run for Fun on the Saturday and numerous others from the wider school community who completed the Great Limerick Run on the Sunday.
Pupils use measuring skills to check size of local pitch.
Third/fourth class have been studying area and perimeter this week in maths and went outside to draw squared metres.
A further study was conducted to determine the area of the pitch which is next door to the school. Beforehand, a few pupils had stated that they had always been told that the pitch was the same size as the one in Croke Park. This seemed like the perfect time to investigate! It turns out, the pitch in Herbertstown is indeed the same size as the hallowed sod in Croke Park! (if not fractionally bigger!)
Our Girls finished runners-up in the 2019 INTO Mini 7s football competition.
Our girls football team continued their fine year with some outstanding performances at the County INTO Mini 7s Finals in Mick Neville Park, Rathkeale today.
Herbertstown NS, representing the South as the division’s champions, took on East champions Roxborough NS, Mahoonagh NS from the West and Gaelscoil Caladh an Treoigh from the City.
In the first game, Herbertstown gave a fine display and had a convincing win against Gaelscoil Caladh an Treoigh.

In the second game, Herbertstown faced off against the Celtic Image Shield holders (county 15-a-side champions) Roxborough NS. The first half was keenly contested and at the break, Roxborough held a 1 point lead. Wind assisted in the second half, the East side pulled away to get the victory.
In the final game, Herbertstown and Mahoonagh NS met having secured a win each at that point. In their best performance of the day, our girls recorded a memorable victory with some crucial goals coming in the last couple of minutes.

As mentioned, Herbertstown finished as runners-up and it was our best result at a Mini 7s County Final having finished 3rd on two occasions previously. (Boys hurling 2016, girls football 2017). Well done girls!
Our girls were in real hard luck at the South INTO Mini 7s camogie finals were they lost narrowly in two games to Kilmallock NS and eventual winners Knocklong NS. In both games the girls performed very well and in the closing stages were only only a score away from the winners.
They can be very proud of their performances on the day and can now look forward to the 11 a side camogie in May.
Pupils attending South hurling & camogie trials
Good luck to our 8 pupils who are representing the school at the South trials.
